06 Aug Growing Family through Foster Care and Adoption

I have wanted to be a teacher, get married, and be a mommy since I was a little girl. My 2nd year teaching preschool I met a little girl that just pulled at my heart strings. She was living with her grandmother and had lost both parents. She was diagnosed with Autism at 2 and was non verbal at the time. It was an instant connection and I told her family and mine that I wanted to adopt her. My family instantly told me that I wouldn’t be able to do that. I didn’t have a husband let alone a boyfriend. I told them God would provide if it was meant to be.
Two weeks later I met my husband and we became an instant family. We were engaged 6 months later and married the next February. We started trying for kids instantly since I knew it would be hard. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15 and knew the odds were against us. I longed for a baby! I would sit in the nursery we made and cry out to God to fill that room. It was heart breaking for me, especially since everyone around me had a baby.
Both my sisters and my best friend were pregnant. I heard a song by Natalie Grant that said “why wait for a miracle to come, when you could be one.” We signed up for foster care classes and the day our license was approved we received a call for a 3 day old baby girl and her brother. Baby girl was born exactly a month after my sisters’ daughter and 6 days before my best friends’ daughter. We adopted our daughter two years ago and we are in the process of adoption for our other two blessings.
We still believe that God is going to bless us with another miracle and I am so thankful to a part of the Moms in the Making group in Dunn, NC as it has been a great support to have close friends to lean on in the hard times, and celebrate with during the God moments.
Remember, God is never late and always has a plan greater than we could ever imagine! Just trust in HIS timing and HIS plan!
