I Found a Sisterhood through Moms in the Making

This past year didn’t go according to my plans. During a procedure at a fertility clinic, I experienced a rare complication that left me bedridden for months. While I have a wonderful community at home, I still felt physically isolated during my bed rest and throughout my fertility journey. In the midst of my pain, God knew exactly what I needed, even when I didn’t know how to ask for it.

I had been following Moms in the Making online, and when I saw the sign-ups for virtual groups, I turned to my husband and suggested that this might be a good option for us. As I spent time overthinking whether or not I should sign up, he had already registered for Dads in the Making. He told me I could keep deciding, but he was certain it was something we both needed.

When I joined, my MITM group leader reached out to me with a warm welcome. I honestly didn’t expect to find deep connection in a virtual group, but I was completely wrong. There was no guilt or shame when I shared my struggles; the other women understood me in a way no one else ever had.

I also signed up for my first prayer partner, uncertain of what to expect. We started exchanging prayer requests, which quickly turned into praying for one another over everything. She has since become one of my dearest friends, someone with whom I can share absolutely anything.

When the annual conference came around, I felt that God was calling me to go, though I had never met anyone in person. I knew a friend from my virtual group was attending and had coordinated with a local MITM group. As someone who is Type A in every way, I took a leap of faith and bought my ticket just three weeks before the conference. I was traveling alone from Washington, but I couldn’t have been more blessed. The women from Wisconsin took me in and made me feel included—before, during, and after the conference.

Since becoming involved with MITM, I have been blessed with a true sisterhood in Christ. These women deeply care for me, pray over me, and believe in miracles for my fertility journey. God knew exactly what my heart needed, even when I didn’t feel worthy enough to ask for it.
