God’s Timing, Not Mine

My husband and I have been trying to build our family for four years. Last year, God gave us two open doors – one for fertility treatments and another for adoption. After much prayer, we felt complete peace about pursuing adoption, specifically adopting siblings from foster care. After five months of intense and invasive interviews with the agency, we were waiting on approval for the home study to begin matching.

On the Friday that the Moms in the Making Leader Retreat began, my husband and I received an update from the adoption agency. They vaguely shared concerns regarding our trauma history. As I continued reading, they explained that these concerns could lead to us needing additional training, counseling, or even having the home study put on pause completely. My husband and I were absolutely devastated.

That evening at the retreat, I received my prophetic letter, which referenced Proverbs 3:5-8. The letter included a call to action to put something down that I had picked up. When talking to my husband on the phone, the Spirit spoke through him, saying “our family.” Even though I believed I was walking in a posture of surrender, I realized I had been going through the home study process with my head down and hands closed, trying to get it done within my timeframe.

The next day, the Lord met me again through the prophetic gift exchange. He revealed areas of my heart that still needed healing and graciously called me once more to “Be still and know” (Psalm 46:10). The Lord was inviting me to stop striving and to trust in His workings, His plan, and His timeline. He later showed me that He is continuing to strengthen both me and my husband in the waiting, giving me a vision of a shield around my entire body, laced with peace and lined with diamonds, so that no matter what we face in the future, it will not be able to cut through us. In His merciful love, God reminded me again that this waiting is not for nothing, but for a divine purpose.
