In May 2023, we began our second attempt at an IUI cycle, but sadly, that cycle ended as quickly as it began. The Sunday after our cycle was canceled, I remember feeling so upset and defeated in our journey. We didn’t know where to go from there — should we spend more money on another IUI, knowing it might end the same way? Should we try IVF or adoption? Everything felt so uncertain, and I was overwhelmed with doubt about whether I would ever get to be a mom.
After our church service, we asked our pastor to pray over us. He knew a little bit about our waiting and reminded us that our church community was praying for us, too. He also shared about his daughter, who had struggled to have children. He told us that after trying a few medical cycles, she chose to rest, and then she conceived. In that moment, a lot of weight lifted off our shoulders as we felt God leading us to rest, too.
A few weeks later, the Lord put it on my heart to talk to my husband about adoption. At first, I didn’t understand it because we had discussed adoption earlier in our journey, but my husband hadn’t felt ready at that time. The Lord kept pressing on my heart, so I stepped out in faith and asked my husband about pursuing adoption again. To my surprise, this time he said, “OK, let’s do it.”
We quickly did our research and began the adoption process. In July 2023, we shared our plans with our family, and by September/October, we started our home study. Our adoption journey had many ups and downs, but it was during this season that I felt closest to God. Without my faith, I don’t think I would have made it through the harder moments of the process.
Fast forward to May of this year, we’re now eight months into loving our miracle through adoption. This past weekend at church, we were in the very same sanctuary where I had cried so many tears during worship, but this time, I was worshiping while holding my miracle. I am still in awe of how God answered our prayers.
