When I joined Moms in the Making in the middle of the Fall 2021 semester, I was truly struggling with my mental health. At the time, my husband, Tyler, and I had been trying to grow our family since 2018. I was also wrestling with my faith, wondering if something I had done in the past had caused our infertility.
Throughout our journey, we faced failure after failure. It wasn’t until my doctor strongly encouraged me to connect with a former patient of his, someone who led a Christian group for women walking through similar struggles, that things began to shift. This came right before we attempted IVF, which sadly failed, followed by our first miscarriage.
As we considered our next step, I leaned on the women in the group who prayed over me and stood by me. Through their prayers and support, we decided to move forward with a donor. After talking with my parents, who generously helped cover the costs of the procedure and medication since we had already taken out a loan for our first attempt, we began the process. After months of choosing donor after donor without success, the Lord stirred the heart of our chosen donor and led her to say yes. Our transfer took place the week of Thanksgiving, and we finally saw success, our miracle girl!
But the Lord wasn’t done testing my faith. Six weeks after she was born, I developed MRSA and required emergency surgery. Thankfully, they placed me in the maternity ward and helped care for my daughter while I recovered. When we were discharged, Hurricane Ian was approaching. I had a PICC line, and my husband faithfully packed my wound twice a day. It was in that season the Lord showed me what I was truly capable of, and reminded me of the godly man He had given me as a husband.
After a year and a half, I knew our family wasn’t complete. With Christ at the center, we used one of our frozen embryos. But we miscarried at 7 weeks. That loss led me to attend my first Moms in the Making conference.
I had no idea what God had in store for me that weekend. He placed it on my heart to be baptized in front of my sisters in Christ. Soon after, we transferred another embryo on Good Friday, and the Lord blessed us with our second miracle girl!
