Becoming a First-Time Mom at 47

We struggled with infertility for 15 years. In the beginning, we had dreams and hopes, but somewhere along the way, my prayers changed from “Please grant the desire of my heart” to “Please, God, take the desire of my heart away.” At one point, I was done. I didn’t want to believe or hope anymore, and that’s when God showed up.

He crossed our path with a single mom of triplets who had five frozen embryos. She had been praying, “God, who do You want to be the parents to these babies?” Long story short, we adopted those snowflake embryos. We transferred two and had our second-ever positive pregnancy. We were so excited and in love, but all too quickly, we lost her before we ever got to meet her.

Not long after, my husband’s health took a drastic turn, quadruple heart surgery followed by a terrible stroke. I was sure I would never be a mom.

Fast forward—after therapy, and by God’s grace, my husband improved (though he still cannot walk or talk). We decided to finish our journey and trust God’s promise from 15 years earlier. We had two embryos remaining. We transferred both, and our precious miracle boy was the result!

Benjamin was born 10 weeks early, and we lived in the NICU for 70 days. But when we went in for that final transfer, I believed, and I never doubted what God was going to do!

I followed Moms in the Making for daily encouragement. During the stroke season, God also moved me into a new job, and that new job ended up covering 100% of our fertility treatments and Benjamin’s entire NICU stay! We serve an amazing, loving, faithful God who is always right on time.

Benjamin was born during COVID, and I was sent home to work remotely, what began as temporary turned into a permanent work-from-home job. I never imagined I’d be a mom, let alone a stay-at-home one. But God did above and beyond all I could ask, think, or imagine.

When we lose sight of the God who can, we often believe He won’t. But He still does. So, at 47 years old, I gave birth to my adopted embryo, and now have the most amazing little boy you could ever meet! God is good, faithful, and true.
